The nursing team offer appointments during surgery opening hours which can be pre booked or made on the day. They also provide emergency and urgent care as required.
The practice nurses liaise with doctors, health care assistants and reception staff in all aspects of patient care. Working as a part of an integrated team the role includes the following areas of health care:
• Education• Health checks• Dressings/wound care• Removal of sutures/clips• Ear syringing• Hypertension Monitoring• Venepuncture• Vaccinations (child & travel)• Smears• Chronic disease – Asthma /COPD / Diabetic reviews• Spirometry• STI / Contraception / HRT• Cervical cytology/IUD checks• Management of diabetic patients on insulin
The Health Care Assistant team provide support to the doctors, nurse practitioners and practice nurses. The Health Care team are able to offer appointments for:
• Health checks/Lifestyle advice – this includes Blood Pressure checks, Cholesterol tests, Smoking Cessation advice and referral, Alcohol intake advice and referral, Diet and Weight advice and referral.• Registration checks• Phlebotomy• Hearing tests• Blood pressure checks• ECG’s• Glucose Tolerance Testing• Minor Wound Care and Dressings• Hypertension Monitoring (24 hour BP machines)• Pregnancy Testing• Warfarin Management – under GP supervision• Thyroid Function Management – under GP supervision
They also act as chaperone for examinations when required and may assist the general practitioner in procedures such as minor operations and gynaecological consultations.
The practice manager is involved in managing all of the business aspects of the practice such as making sure that the right systems are in place to provide a high quality of patient care, human resources, finance, patient safety, premises and equipment and information technology. The practice manager supports the GPs and other medical professionals with delivering patient services and also helps to develop extended services to enhance patient care.
The Administration Team deal with financial claims, dealing with patient records,carrying out searches and practice audits. They also deal with requests for medical reports and information. They code all medical records and incoming mail along with scanning in correspondence onto patients records.
Deputy Reception Supervisor
Receptionists provide an important link for patients with the practice and are your initial contact point for general enquiries. They can provide basic information on services and results and direct you to the right person depending on your health issue or query. Receptionists make most of the patient appointments with the GPs and nurses. They also perform other important tasks such as issuing repeat prescriptions and dealing with prescription enquiries.
The Secretaries type up referrals for further care and any other correspondence relating to patient care. They also make 'Choose & Book' appointments.
